Baeza. Palacio de Jabalquinto

The Palacio de Jabalquinto is one of the most remarkable buildings in Baeza.
It was built at the end of the 15th century by Don Juan Alonso de Benavides Manrique, the Lord of Jabalquinto, most commonly known as the “Captain of Lorca”, and the second cousin of king Ferdinand the Catholic.
This is a free-standing building, whose magnificent main façade takes over the square lending to it the urban qualities so much longed for by the Renaissance Humanists. The project was undertaken by Enrique Egas.
The artistic façade of the palace is attributed to Juan Guas. It was executed following the style known as the Catholic Monarchs style or Isabelline style, whose main feature is its abundant decoration. The elements used include pyramid shapes, pointed leaves, foliage, rosettes, bows, pinnacles, shields and honeycomb work.
