Astorga City Council is in the pedestrian main square , in the center of town. It is a baroque palace, built in stone in 1675 as designed by Manuel de La Lastra, though remodeled and expanded in the nineteenth century and more recently (8 years ago) by Andres Lozano. From outside the main attraction is its two towers, at both sides of the main facade (under which the cells are still preserved) topped with spiers. But the most curious thing about this building is its clock, which is played every hour by two figures called maragatos . The interior retains the banner won from the Moors in the Battle of Clavijo of La Rioja. The building is declared Historic Spanish heritage.
