The full name of the church is Church of the Holy Martyr Brothers Vicente, Sabina and Cristeta. The story goes that in the year 306, the three brothers were martyred for refusing to sign a document to make sacrifices to Roman gods. Their bodies were left in the hollow of a rock where the Basilica of San Vicente was subsequently built.
The present basilica was begun around 1130. It has a Latin cross with three naves and three apses.
Although the remains of the Holy Martyred Brothers are placed in urns on the high altar, the Basilica holds a cenotaph of the saints. Carved in polychrome stone, in an ark-shaped, gable roof form, it is one of the best works of Spanish Romanesque sculpture. Its decoration includes scenes of Magi and the martyrdom of the brothers.
