Built in 1903/04, in "art Nouveau" style, it's located at the highest point of the plateau overlooking the city, in Theresienstein Park.
The park was established on a slope to the north of the city, which was planted with leaf and fir trees around 1819 and which was intended to be a park area.
From the beginning the well-off citizens of Hof donated money and property for the creation of the "Fröhlichen-stein", making it one of the first "Citizens' Parks" in Bavaria.
On the 22nd of August 1836 Queen Therese of Bavaria visited the "Fröhlichenstein" and permitted the Hof city park to use her name in the future, i.e. the "Theresienstein".
