ANGELITE The Bulgarian Voices
This phenomenal group performed for the first time in Bremen, Germany in 1987, only to travel all around the world in the following years – from Alaska to Japan, from Mexico to India. Bulgarian Voices sung during the Noble Prize ceremony in Oslo (1996), and for an Indian maharaja, cooperated with Japanese Kodo Drummers, and produced joint CDs with the Tuva throat singers. Their discography includes Christian Orthodox religious vocal music, as well as “Balkan Passion” – a project prepared jointly with a number of international stars, such as Maria Farantouri, Sezen Aksu, Fanfare Ciocarlia.
The music of Huun-Huur-Tu is veiled in a sort of mystery, which is felt both in their concerts and their recordings. The band has devoted themselves to learning old songs and melodies, and their shows reflect both the value of innovation and of tradition. TUVA is a name of a region in central Asia, remote from any civilization. The Tuva Republic is a part of the Russian Federation.
Throat singing, a technique not comparable with anything, presented by the HUUN-HUUR-TU, originally developed by the inhabitants of the steppes, is one of the most fascinating vocal techniques. It allows the singer to emit up to three sounds simultaneously. The songs are accompanied on traditional instruments.
Sample of music with Huun-Huur-Tu: "Mountain Tale"
