Medieval Walls Of Alcúdia

Alcúdia, Mallorka, Spain

Alcúdia is the main tourist centre in the North of Majorca on the eastern coast.
Alcúdia is the oldest city of the Balearic Islands, it was founded by the Phoenicians, in Roman times it flourished by the name of Pollentia.
In Alcúdia, the old town is well preserved, surrounded by a medieval wall and with houses dating back as far as to the 13th century.
The construction of fortifications was ordered by king of Mallorca Jaume II in 1292 to protect Alcudia from the raids of Muslim pirates, and was finished by 1362.
The walls are 1.5 km long and 6 m high.
