The Royal Chapel is the only baroque church in the Main City of Gdansk, built between 1678-1681.
The overall design of the Royal Chapel is most likely the work of Tylman van Gameren, the court architect of king John III Sobieski.
Its facade is richly decorated with Baroque sculptures.
Founded on the initiative of King Jan III Sobieski as a temporary chapel for the Catholics, who were then a minority in Gdansk and parish of St. Mary's Church was remaining in the hands of Protestants.
