Great Mill

Gdynia, Poland

Built by the Teutonic Knights in 1350 with red brick.
Until 1356, when the Radunia Canal was built, the mill was powered by slaves turning 18 huge wheels.

It was the largest industrial plant in Europe during the Middle Ages, at over 40m long and 26m high. Until 1939, it remained in use and produced up to 200 tons of flour per day.
After the WW II, the mill had numerous and diverse functions, housing a dance club, an arcade game salon and - until 2016 - a shopping mall.
Now under some renovation works, the building is being adapted to the needs of the Amber Museum, which is scheduled to reopen in the new location in mid-2021.
