The Harbour Porpoise Statue

Gdynia, Poland

Phocoena (in Polish Morswin) - The harbour porpoise is a small whale which actually lives in the Baltic Sea, but it is critically endangered.
It is one of the smallest marine mammals.

Harbour porpoises are threatened by fisheries, since they can get caught and drown in fishing nets.
This is one of the primary reasons there are so few porpoises left in the Baltic Sea today.
There are only approximately 500 of them.
The real size monument made in bronze, was erected in 2006 to remind, how important it is to protect and save those animals.
