Vang Church In Karpacz - The Altar

Karpacz, Poland

The cross was made in 1844 from a single oak trunk and the figure of Christ, made from linden wood in 1846 - both by a sculptor - Jakub of Janowice.
On both sides of the altar there are two candlestick that show a swan (a symbol of faithfulness) and a heart (a symbol of love). The candles in them are lit only during wedding ceremonies. Wang Church is well known as a church of successful marriages.

The church is a four-post single-nave stave church originally built around 1200 in the parish of Vang in Norway. It was built from the Norwegian pine tree, the way the Viking longships were constructed, that is without a single nail, it features wooden bolts and dovetails. Following the best examples of the Scandinavian sacral architecture, the church is now a unique work of the old Nordic art.
