Photo taken from close under Gilman's Point, at almost 5891m/19327ft, just when the sun peeked from behind the red-orange line of eastern horizon.
You can see Mt. Mawenzi (5149m) now below, outlined with the first light of the day, the clouds in the valley and the curvature of Earth.
I took it with freezing hands as I had to take off the three layers of gloves and the wind was ice blowing at temperature about -18C/0F (without the wind chill factor).
But the view was so amazingly beautiful I could hardly notice the cold. I have heard that sunrise from atop Kilimanjaro is one of the most spectacular sights of Africa.
NOW I KNOW - IT IS AMAZING AND BREATHTAKING!!
