DROHICZYN - A TOWN IN PODLASIE

Drohiczyn is a charming town situated on the Bug River, in Podlaskie Voivodeship, Eastern Poland. It was the first capital of the Podlasie Voivodeship. The town has a population of 2,110 and has a long and rich history, as in the past it was one of the most important cities of the region of Podlasie (Podlachia) as well as one of the four crowning cities (after Gniezno, Krakow and Warsaw). Currently, it is the seat of Roman Catholic Diocese of Drohiczyn.

Tourist atractions are: the early medieval stronghold on Castle Hill, the Jesuit monastery complex with the Church of the Holy Trinity, the Franciscan monastery complex with a three-nave, late Baroque church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, a Benedictine monastery with an 18th century church with an interesting Rococo façade and the Orthodox church of St Nicholas the Miracle Worker. You can also go rafting or take boat cruises on the lazy Bug River.
