A small park named Star Alley. I am not sure where the name came from.

I'd guess it used to be one long ago. Google Street View shows that it was already a kinda-sorta park by 2009 (but just some picnic tables and grass); they really went to town on making it a cimmunity garden between 2012 and 2014, about the time that the rest of the street went a bit more upmarket with new buildings on the other side of South Ave. It's not unkempt but it does have a bit of a "wild" rather than manicured vibe that you've captured here.
