Homeless in America
Sanctuary Village is a safe haven for the homeless in Rochester, NY. The village was a tent city, but moved into a donated former warehouse due to the cold winter weather.

Kudoos, for documenting such a sad state of affairs given the abundance of waster we see everywhere.

A fine photojournalism capture. I see some of the homeless up here sitting on the sidewalk in -20c begging for a few coins. V

Sad image of these homeless people - but they keep up the flag (V)

Sad to see that such a place is necessary, but at least it's dry and a mite warmer than the streets, Julie.
Excellent B&W work. *V*

This photograph is very touching...and thoughtful. I'm glad these people have been given shelter inside. V.

Strong documentary image Julie and very effective in b&w. There is no reason why people in this country should be homeless, especially in view of so much waste by the government. "V"

Still, such a sad scene to see that so many people need shelter from the streets...V

I've seen your winters; this is definitely a vastly preferable option. It's far from ideal but much better than a tent. What's interesting about this shot is the presence of Old Glory; no matter how far these people have fallen (and that could be most of us if circumstances were to turn against us badly enough) at least someone here still faith in "The Republic for which it stands". It's an image that mixes despair and hope quite effectively. (Ah; I just noticed that one of the other commenters also picked up on this.)

An excellent shot of this sad scene. The American flag is a fine ironic touch. V

out of the weather perhaps, yet still a tad grim...a disturbing scene so well captured...
