I really, really love this portrait. She's not "cover girl" beautiful, but she's very beautiful all the same in the way she carries herself. Eyes which seem bright with optimism, and an expression on her face which is more enigmatic than the Mona Lisa. You want to know what she's thinking there, but probably never will. It's almost a cliche to say "good DOF" but this one is really about ideal; there's sufficient clarity to put her into context, but enough blur to not merely pull her out (because she has an out of focus... I'd guess it's a coffee urn) in front of her, but to put all of the attention onto her. The later of sharpness isn't in the foreground as it often is, but rather at the centre of the image (depth-wise) where she is.
