The top photo was taken with a Gary Fong Lightsphere Diffuser on my flash. The bottom was taken without the diffuser. I applied auto levels and sharpened both photos in PS.

Canon EOS 30D ,Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR
Both were taken at f/9; 1/250 sec; 400 ISO full exif

Both shots are good, that cat definitely has beautiful blue eyes. In the top picture the details behind the cats head are better and the back of it's head is not overexposed as much. Although the hair is overexposed below it's chin in the top picture, if you were ging for just a face picture I would use the bottom shot and blurr all the details beyond the face. Good experiment and a Merry Christmas.
