CANON PHOTOMARATHON 2010 IN DAVAO

The Canon Photomarathon, a most anticipated annual event that started in Manila in 2006, was held for the first time in both Cebu (October 16) and Davao (October 24). With an increasing clamor from Canon photographers in regional locations, Canon reached out to Visayas and Mindanao for the popular event.

The Canon Photomarathon activity was held at the Davao Convention Center. An exciting and fun whole day was spent where Canon digital camera users gathered to compete for prizes through three assigned themes. They ran, drove, walked and scoured the city for winning shots before they submitted their photos straight from the cameras. Judging was handled by well-respected professional photographers Jay Allorina and Jun Miranda, as well as Canon representative and Product Marketing Head for DSLR/Pro JayR Romero. After dinner, fun and games followed where Canon gave away lots of product prizes.

“The Canon Photomarathon has become a tradition for Canon to provide a venue for healthy competition and camaraderie for our loyal customers as well as new ones. Canon believes in the spirit of Kyosei which means living and working for the common good. We have seen many photographers join the photomarathon as a group activity wherein they can help each other out to provide the best photos. The excitement and enjoyment that they receive from a whole day of photography is what drives the value higher for this event, and challenges us to come up with something new each year,” said Mr. Alan Chng, President and CEO of Canon Marketing (Phils.)Inc., who was in Davao to grace the event.

“Last year marked the first Canon Photomarathon Philippines outside Metro Manila when it was held in Tagaytay City. This year, it marks a first for the cities of Cebu and Davao as well as the biggest group we have organized to date for the Philippines with 1200 participants. What started out as a few hundred participants continues to grow which is a parallel indication to the growth of Canon in the Philippines. We are happy to delight more customers in the coming years,” he said.

The Canon Photomarathon is implemented by Canon all over Asia with a total of nine photomarathon events namely in the PhilippinesHong KongTaiwanVietnamIndiaThailandMalaysiaIndonesia and Singapore.

In Davao, theme category winners were Salvador Mascardo, James Tan, and yours truly (Jojie Alcantara). Overall, Maskardo won top prize, Tan first runner up, and Alcantara second runner up. Both Mascardo and Tan represented the regions in the Canon Photomarathon Manila event last November 6, 2010.
