My buddy and eternal co-host SkipoJack (real vintage sounding name is Rogelio dela Cruz) have been hosting the live telecast of Araw ng Davao anniversary and Kadayawan Festival for SkyCable for a decade now. A decade. Think Bob Hope with the Oscar Awards (he hosted for 18 years). Or Kuya Germ’s everlasting midnight talk show. Anyhow, it was SkyCable who was one of the early supporters of both our hosting careers, although Skip has been a popular jock of the 80s radio boom when FM had only 3 channels then. Back then, we were very slim.

This year’s Araw ng Davao celebration is a bit more subdued and laid back. It must have been the rainy weather, but still the streets were full and as always, organized. It was just a letdown to see so many kids and babies were still brought along even when it was drizzling. Amazingly, a lot of contingents from the private and government sectors still joined the parade, some with umbrellas in tow.

In my capacity to do hosting and shooting at the same time, I was able to leave the interviewing to my other co-hosts while I tried to capture the mood of the moment. Here are stills of the Araw ng Davao parade from my wet lens.
