20050812 Straw Blaze

Hertfordshire, England

Been away on a business trip (sorry for not posting any comments) - on the way back from the airport I came across this unfortunate situation.

A large stack of big bales of newly harvested straw was ablaze.

The fire officer on duty said they could only stand-by and prevent further spread. They would not apply water to the fire.

To do so would prolong the core of the fire for up to 2 weeks, whereas untouched it should burn out in a day or so.

(Note - the blur effect is purely from the heat of the fire not PS)

This is a wild shot. Very nicely spotted, I love the haze effect on the view.

Amazing shot John to actually see the heat coming off of the bales of straw. I'm sorry for the owner :o(

Nice shot and I feel sorry for the person who owned the bales and went through all the trouble to get them.

Not a nice site to see but makes for an unusual shot.
