I changed my mind only because I couldn't bear to risk losing old comments from so many wonderful friends. Looks like Slug & Emily have an income for life from us!

Hope you change your mind John, you will be missed... Pbase doesn't have all the bells and whistles but I think the community is second to none...

Hi John, sorry to see you leave PBase. Your photography has been an inspiration to so many on PBase. I hope you keep in touch with all your PBase friends. Wishing you all the best, Nick.

I wrote to PBase about this. They sent me a generic answer. So, I wrote back and said "looks like you care a lot if we lose all our friends" and they wrote me back with some dribble.

Barbara Heide15-Aug-2010 20:05
that's very sad...
I took myself a 6 month break from pbase...
have not found a nice community on the other photosharing sites...
will be missing you!
Hope you'll be back after a break...

Thank you so much for all your kind and undeserved words. I won't be far away and will be popping back to view.

Please consider joining FB everyone - it doesn't have to be a daily chore - just a place to meet friends not just from Pbase but also freinds, relations and colleagues.

Not good news for us who know you here on Pbase, John. Your encouragement inspired many of us as we started off. For those of us who can't get "into" the Facebook daily demand it is good to know we can have the option to greet you from time to time there, and most importantly we will not lose the link to your work as you continue to post elsewhere. The problems that have arisen with Pbase in the past year have been discouraging at times, but... despite that I like its flexibility, its caring band of encouraging photographers, and most especially the friends and acquaintances I've made since joining here. You played a significant role in that, and for that I thank you.

Sad to see you go John, keep popping back and checking the forums for local Meets etc.

I agree with the others, John: Pb won't be the same without you. But see you on Facebook, and I've bookmarked your Zen gallery. (And nice closing shot, by the way!)

See you on FB. But your departure is a real loss.
Scott Browne15-Aug-2010 00:40
Best of luck. I'll miss your shots.

I don't like it, not one bit! Dang it, JOhn! AT least I can talk to you on FB. You will be greatly missed around here!

Not good news John....but then, as I view your pic, I am trying to upload today's effort from me....and it has taken 5 goes for it to be successful!!! It helps to multi-task when using Pbase, it seems. Take care and best wishes ;)

So sorry to see you go, my friend across the pond. I sent PBase this photo and told them to get cracking; that we're all sick of losing friends.

Have you found Zen or are you just P'd off? ;)
Doug Kessler14-Aug-2010 20:38
Exactly what you said except the Zenfolio part. Please let us know how you like it there.
Thanks for the memories!

A true loss for Pbase. You are the King of Pbase Meet Ups.! Thanks for all you do.. You are truly a positive force in this Universe.

Pbase has been a pleasure. Good to get together with so many people on Pbase, but times they are a changing! And there's a lot of people now on fb, so keeping in touch and sharing is still a simple pleasure.

JW I just renewed for another year, and wonder why? So many excellent alternatives that are free/low cost, don't take 15 minutes to login, little downtime etc.
It really is an end to an era when people migrate and move on, and browsing thru your galleries brings back so many fine memories.
TG for Facebook! I'd be devastated to lose touch with you :)

(How about a Hungarian road trip sometime in the relatively near future??? Probably gonna have a place for us to stay............)
Johnny JAG14-Aug-2010 20:03
Sad to see the end of an era, you will leave a big empty space here.
