Harperley POW camp was built in 1944 to house German prisoners.
The MOD wanted to pull it down in 1949, but the landowner would not let them.
When he died in 1999 the land was sold to the present owners, who are running a garden centre, restraunt caravan site, to help fund the restoration of the site as a museum.
Many of the prisoners stayed in the area after the war, due to the friendliness of the locals and the beauty of the surroundings.
