In 1993 for the first time Switzerland send five kids, and a chaperon (me) to the “Worlds Children Baseball Fair” (WCBF) It was founded by Hank Aaron (755 Major League homeruns,) and Sadaharu Oh, (856 Homeruns in Japan). Over 200 kid’s from all over the world, get invited. The size of the Country decides, how many children they can send. The package includes. Free Plane Trip, Three meals a day, Uniform, bat, glove, helmet, shoes, and a sports bag for each kid. It’s mostly held in Japan. Only every few years it is in the USA. We got to go to San Diego.
Note: Switzerland was invited for the first time in 1989. Reto Blum, Swiss baseball federation president at the time said "no thanks", he believed the organization tries to introduce a new kind of baseball, (because of the rubber nankin balls.)Actually he declared it illegal for anybody to have contact with that organisation. The second time in the 1990ties, federation youth representative Heinz Gretler, belived sending 12 year old kids to Japan, would lead to a culture shock to great to bear.
