One of the three Salinas pueblo mission units in the National Park System; relics of a time when Spanish churchmen sparred with Spanish soldiers for dominion over the indigenous population. This and the other units (Quarai and Gran Quivira - posts to follow) were abandoned in the mid-17th century when extended drought visited the region.
