Front induction ETA 29 discovered by Miles Patience

This engine puzzles me. The front intake is typical of many American engines of the era so I don't know if this engine is a "bitsa" using parts from other engines or entirely ETA - maybe there is somebody out there who can throw some light on the matter. There is no serial number which suggests that the engine was a prototype.

The finish on the front housing is an exact match for the crankcase and the prop driver looks as if it might be a cut down standard ETA 29 prop driver. The rear of the crankcase is closed in with a nicely turned backplate.
