ETA Elite

This engine was returned to me in Sep 2010 by a friend from University, Keith, who had been looking after it for close on 35 years. This was in fact my first brand new engine and a Christmas Present from my Grandmother circa 1964 or '65. Boy was I excited to get it and it gave me many years of pleasure before I started modifying it. The cut back fins were to take an Oliver Tiger collector ring. The high pressure tap on the backplate diagonally across from the intake (the knurled section of which can just be seen) seemed a good idea at the time and much to my delight was able to cope with the tank a foot or a bit more below the spray bar although lord knows what this did for performance. There were the obligatory holes drilled around the compression bar for cooling and mysterious holes drilled into the under side of the front housing whose purpose I forget now but which I filled with epoxy. What memories!

The cylinder for all ETA 15 engines was made by the lost wax investment casting process by the Royal Small Arms Factory at Enfield - courtesy of Ray Tuthill's connection with the RSAF.
