In the 1940s I was flying sport and stunt control line but in those days rallies were few and far between until Hadley Page opened their aerodrome for a free flight and glider rally.
I must admit I didn't find it very interesting until I heard something whizzing round at the end of the runway. The only problem was that it must have been at least half a mile away! As I drew nearer Iwatched the pilot perform a near perfect stunt schedule with a small stunt model. The pilot was Roland Scott he told me the model was called the Elf King and it was a prototype which was going to be kitted. The prototype used a Elfin 1.5 diesel and a drop off undercarriage. A few weeks latter I bought the kit but Team Racing took over and the Elf King was shelved. However over the last three years I’ve built three
Elf's and this one will be displayed at Old Warden during 2014.
