1962 - The Cooper 15

In 1962 Alan Cooper decided to develop his own diesel. It really consisted of Oliver internals but with his own design crankcase, fins and carb. The motor was extensively bench and flight tested before racing it. A new model had to be made for the engine because it was physically larger than the Oliver. We raced it at Enfield rally but it proved to be rather slow.

At this time we changed clubs from the Watford Wayfarers MFC to West Essex MFC so that we could practice at North Weald Aerodrome. Johnnie Hall had the idea we could get two models in to the finals - which we achieved at Esher and South Coast Gala but then John fell out with his team mate, Gordon, over the loss of a wheel which Gordon made and posted to John in an envelope. John said he never received the wheel, Gordon called John a liar and they never raced together again.
