IJmuiden, Netherlands

In Winter and early Spring Dutch beaches are covered with millions of so called razor clams. They don't survive the temperatures of the cold seawater and wash ashore massively. For Gulls a festive dinner.
N.b. It's not advisable to walk on bare feet....the razor clams can cause painful lacerations. !

Ugh... I bet it smells bad after a few days. I was wondering about all the little houses. Are they privately owned? Or rentals? V

This is just so amazing and such a waste of good food :) Excellent shot! V

What an amazing scene so well illustrated in your composition. I have had fresh cooked razor clams from the northern Pacific coast...and they are delicious. V

Wow, amazing to see this scene, and yes, definitely not advisable to walk on.

the sea bed looks crunchy...a startling sight...no wonder so few people are about, despite all the elaborate beach huts..

A very nice image and interesting facts about the razor clams.
Looks to be a popular spot many homes enjoying the area.

Too bad they die before harvesting. I ate some many years ago and they tasted like the usual clams we ate. This is a graphic illustration of the situation.

Impressive capture. They are good to eat when they are well prepared (which is not so common). V.

Very interesting. Do the clams get cleared due to the gulls, or are they simply washed out to sea during the other times of year?
