Most of the Forbidden Purple City was destroyed during the Tet Offensive of 1968 when U.S. military
forces, reacting to the North Vietnamese takeover of Hue, ordered the city to be retaken. In this
photo what was once a continuation of the Forbidden Purple City is now an empty field.
