1919 - Sgt. York returning home

Pall Mall, Tennessee

Sergeant Alvin York was considered the greatest American hero of World War I. When informed
that Hollywood wanted to make a film about his exploits, York insisted that only Gary Cooper
could play him and if Cooper couldn't play him, he would not allow the film to be made.
SERGEANT YORK, starring Gary Cooper, was the highest grossing film of 1941.

Wonderful photo and story. He made a perfect choice of Gary Cooper. V.
