Paramount Building

When it opened in 1926, the Paramount Building was the tallest structure on Broadway north of the Woolworth Building,
and its illuminated glass globe could be seen as far as New Jersey. Its 3,600 seat theatre was the premiere showcase for
Paramount Pictures, and eventually became a popular venue for live performances. At the start of World War II, the globe
and clock were painted black to maintain blackout conditions for fear of enemy invasion and were not restored until 1996.
