One of the finest walks in all of Devon can be enjoyed along the deeply incised valley of the River Teign
from Dogmarsh Bridge below Castle Drogo (near Chagford on the main road to Moretonhampstead) to Fingle Bridge.
Allow about an hour for the walk, longer if you like to stop and take photos etc.
There is an interesting inn serving food at Fingle Bridge which makes
a visit even more enjoyable (check for opening times).

If walking downstream from Dog Marsh you can choose either side of the river as there is a footbridge.
If you stay on the left, which is the more popular side,
you'll find a path with plenty of ups and downs and interesting pools and rapids to look at.
If you cross the bridge and go on the right hand side, you need to climb up over a wall
which has a rudimentary stone stile in it,
but after that the track is easier than on the other side
and after about 100 metres you come to a gate at the end of the big wall
and can then take a look at an old hydro electric station on the river before
continuing your walk. Mobile phones do not work down in the valley.
To drive to Fingle Bridge go down the hill from the village of Drewsteignton.
There is plenty of car parking at Fingle Bridge both on the village side and across
the bridge itself which is OK for normal size European cars.
