1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Henley Roadster by Brewster

This Rolls-Royce roadster spent most of its life in Sandwich, NH.

The Phantom II models were built in Derby, England, as production in Springfield, MA ended with the Phantom I. There were 116 left hand drive Phantom II chassis delivered to the Springfield, MA. Rolls-Royce branch and of these 9 were fitted with the Henley Roadster body by Brewster & Company between 1931 and 1934.

The car was a gift to Doris Benz from her parents upon her graduation from Radcliffe College in Cambridge, MA. Her father Jacob Benz was the proprietor of Benz Kid Leather Tanning Company in Lynn, MA. The Benz family had homes in Lynn and Brookline, Ma and a summer home in Sandwich, NH. The Henley Roadster was one of two Rolls-Royces owned by Doris L. Benz the other being a closed car.

The Henley roadster was auctioned by Skinner Auctioneers as part of the estate of Doris Benz in 1984, and was purchased by the well known automobile collector Bob Bahre of Paris, Maine and Alton, NH. The Rolls survives in remarkably original condition, with original paint and upholstery and a newer top. During the car show at the Sandwich, NH Fairground, many town residents who thought that they would never see the Rolls again, stopped and reminisced about Doris Benz and her Rolls-Royce roadster.

Very sporty looking for a Rolls as well. Thanks for both the picture and the car's interesting background. ~V~
