Acétate de fer à gauche, du thé à droite.

L’acétate vient de la réaction entre de la laine d'acier 000 et le vinaigre 14%. Il réagit sur les
tanins dans le bois en les noircissant. Cependant, le bois d’épicéa tel que j'ai acheté n'a pas
beaucoup de tanins alors on le peint d'abord avec du thé pour renforcer la réaction.

The iron acetate comes from reacting 000 fine steel wool with 14% vinegar and putting it through a
coffee filter, the tea comes from (ta-da!) tea-bags, about 20 per 1½ litres of water. The acetate
darkens the tanins in wood, but light softwoods don't have that much so the tea supplies more. The
tea goes on first then the acetate, and then the magic happens.
