Trois images d'avant la Grande Guerre.

J'ai trouvé ce petit carton sur une brocante en Allemagne, il y a presque 30 ans. Je le croyais vide, et le prix demandé, DM 10,-, était un peu fort, mais je le voyais bien dans notre collection, et j'ai payé. J'étais un peu étonné de le trouver si lourd : en l'ouvrant, j'étais ravi de trouver en jeu de négatifs en verre datant d'avant la 1e Guerre Mondiale. C'est les chapeaux qui ont permis de les dater. Les plaques avaient été vendues par un labo de St.-Etienne : je suppose donc que le photographe et sa famille étaient de la région.

Three images from before the Great War.

I found this box on a fleamarket in Germany nearly 30 years ago. I thought it was empty, and found the asking price of DM 10.- a bit steep, but it was a nice item for our camera collection so I paid it over. I was startled to find it so heavy: when I opened it, I was delighted to find a set of quarter-plate negatives taken before the Great War, the hats being the clue to the date. The plates were bought in St. Etienne, an industrial city in the Massif Central, so I'd guess that the photographer and his family lived nearby.
