You might call this still life in studying. I was setting this shot up for another reason but decided to put this together to illustrate a point. Until a few days ago, I never thought about shooting in camera raw. I trusted the camera presets to do their best. They were OK for snapshots, but I really wanted to get some accurate color for a change. The grey card in the middle is the WhiBal card which is 18% grey. I shot this one in raw and one click in camera raw converted from the top to the bottom shot. The top one is incandescent lighted and the bottom one is corrected for the color imbalance. This came out pretty neat. I am going to use camera raw quite a bit more in the future. The raw file is about three times larger than the jpeg, but hey, storage is cheap!

Math books that don't deal primarily with The Evil One don't count. My hydrogen-powered abacus was calibrated just last week, so it's not giving false readings. However, I have realized that another evil is represented here: chemistry.

Actually, Dave, there are four math books in the pile. Either you can't read or can't count, probably the latter.

Consider me "missing because of inattentiveness"---I just saw that chempilot has been posting photos since January 1.

Scientific observation: The colors at bottom are noticeably better overall, but I prefer the warmer wallpaper tone in the upper photo.

Moral observation: It is disappointing---but not surprising (photo taken in Texas, after all)---to see a perfectly good experiment tainted beyond belief by the presence of books concerning The Evil Math. One book would be bad enough, but two! It's a good thing I took some Dramamine before starting to surf this morning.

Aside: Please tell that chempilot fellow that if he does not start posting photos again, he will be considered as "missing because of inaction." Also tell him that sandstone is perpetually hard, so it never needs to be massaged.

cool camera experimenting. the most significant difference is in the grey of the table. i've used RAW before, but i seem to get the same results with a superfine jpeg. then i convert it to a tiff when in photoshop. for WB i often use the WB custom feature, just using a 90 brightness sheet of printer paper as a reference.

all the calculus books in the past few shots seem to be keeping agent beedon away. he must be out massaging his sandstone....
