30-SEP-2007 Ginny Cross

Why are these guys smiling? They are about to start a tutorial in AP Chemistry. This is Michael, a nice kid who likes rocketry and all things technical.

They are also posing for Ginny who thought it was cool we were both wearing a red shirt. Ginny also had a red shirt. That makes three of us. Now, females of the species think such a color coordination extravaganza, although accidental, is worth commenting about. Let me assure you it was a coincidence since I really do dress myself, honest.

Guys could care less about what they are wearing or whether their clothes coordinate with someone else. You know how it goes. We are going somewhere with friends and Ginny gets on the horn to check what her girl friends are going to wear (who cares?) and at the same time make sure that I am not going to be out of synch with the male members of the party. This is in stark contrast to male members of the species. We would never call a friend to find out what they are wearing or what they thought about something or where they should eat lunch and whether so and so should be invited. Having made a plan to do something we simply DO IT! Full stop. No discussion. The only coordination is who is going to bring the beer and who is going to get the food. That takes a total of eight seconds. "I'll grab some beer and you get some chow, OK?" "Yeah, works for me." CLICK! Its that simple.

The significance of the difference between the genders pales in comparison to the difference between people who like chemistry and those who don't. My "D" in college chemistry should give you a clue as to which group I belong. In case it doesn't, I will state publicly that I hate chemistry.
