This is a washing machine which those of you who are visually astute will notice is in a slightly disassembled state. It leaked like hell, and I figured I could fix it (after all I am an aircraft mechanic). It was simple to isolate the leak, it poured out of the water injector. I pulled it apart and cleaned it up. It looked like new. It also leaked like hell. I started cruising the internet (thank you Google) and found that the water injector (which atomizes the water and shoots it down a rubber hose to the basket) was intended to get a fine mist when filling so that during the rinse and spin cycle, lint would be washed down the walls of the basket. Well, I decided that I didn't care about that so I got an appropriately sized plastic nipple and replaced the injector with a straight pipe. Works fine. Now if I had made such a substitution on an airplane (I know they don't wash clothes!) I would have been required to get a field approval since the modification was not in accordance with "approved data." That would have taken years.
