And so the saga of the crapped out notebook computer continues. To my delight and surprise, the promised shipping box arrived this morning. This is a picture of the computer in its packaging material just before it was put back into the box. This is a Fed Ex thing. Anyway, I called them to schedule a pick up. Once I got through all the audio menu crap, I was directed to a customer service rep. I thought to my self, at last a native English speaker. NOT. I could barely understand her. I did figure out that somebody would come and pick it up. What is not clear is when that might happen. Five o'clock was mentioned several times. It was not clear what day (today, I hope) or whether it would be before or after. I did get a number which is reassuring. It is 287. I have no clue what it means, but at least I got a number.

One thing about HP is that they have been doing this FedEx box trick for quite a while. Many years ago I bought an expensive scanner from them. SCSI interface, so you know it was a long time ago. Anyway, it crapped out. After hours of phone conversations, they capitulated and did the send the box trick. At that time you had to take it to some place, but none the less it was cool. A new scanner arrived in days.

Carl: 287 is a prime number, get it?? I didn't think so, being a biochemist. I am a prime candidate for timely pick up.

News flash, the FedEx lady arrived a little after 5pm. She spoke english without any accent whatsoever (apparently a Texan!). She apologised for being a little late, but she had locked her keys in the delivery truck.

i stand corrected. after a few calls to a few fedex friends it means "give to gorilla from samsonite commercial."

i thought 287 was fedex speak for "troublemaker."

If it is going to silicone heaven, I will keep abreast of it. If it is going to silicon heaven, I won't bother.

287 is a code for this computer to be delivered to Silicone heaven.
The Fed Ex box is really a coffin.

Progress!---even though you don't know the meaning of the number "287." I like the packaging system. Renton (does it exist?) sends its good wishes and awaits further developments...
