I was driving out to the airport this morning before sunrise and this refinery flare was burning a little bit of stuff. For years I have been meaning to get a good shot at night of a flare going gang busters. This one wasn't very spectacular, but I decided to shoot a few to see what I could get. I shot with my S70. It was a small image and not very sharp, but I learned some things. Mainly I need a long lens to get something decent.

those flames are cool. reminds me of mad max or something. high f-stop(i think f8 is the highest on your camera) and adjust the shutter speed as needed. the same for sun/moon pics. of course, a tripod helps too...
