I cleaned up my desk at the airport. It was pretty deep in old papers and magazines. I wanted to be just like my friend Bloke. He keeps a very clean desk. Must be that Air Force training. I will bet that his sock drawer at home is neatly arranged.

This scene reminds me of a standard practice at my first job at Boeing in 1980. There was a very strong "engineering tradition" in most offices. I occupied one desk in a large room full of desks ("a sea of desks"). As an employee left to go home, the employee would remove everything from his (rarely her) desk except for the telephone, which was placed in a certain spot. An employee's metal stacked paper tray was placed in the chair and the chair pushed up against the desk. Anything else was put in the desk drawers. Imagine a large open-bay room with rows and rows of desks looking like that: sterile as hell. Nowadays things are much more relaxed and things like that aren't done any more.

Now that you cleaned your room, you may go out and fly.
