Built in 1915 along a dirt road, the Cucamonga Service Station in Rancho Cucamonga, California, predates Route 66 by a decade and is the last surviving station of its architectural style in California. It operated as a popular Richfield Oil station from the 1930s until closing in 1971. Saved from demolition and designated a historical landmark in 2009, the iconic yellow-and-blue building was beautifully restored by volunteers and reopened in 2015 as a museum and gift shop for Route 66 travelers. Ginny just had to go to Rancho Cucamonga because the name was so cool. You may remember the Jan & Dean song "The Anaheim, Azusa and Cucamonga Sewing Circle, Book Review and Timing Association" was released in 1964. BTW-that is a beautifully restored 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu (or Malibu SS).
