The life of a soldier in early 19th century missions was pretty hard. They had to provide all their own equipment and clothing. They would order it from Mexico and the commandant would receive the package and charge them a fee for obtaining it. Additionally, the soldier had to provide four horses and two mules and feed them. As you might imagine, they never got out of debt. This is a recreation of a room in the barracks of Mission San Francisco Solano in Sonoma, California.
