We went out today and started our search for cameras to take on safari in Africa later in the year. It was clear that we were not going to bring our usual hardware because it is too heavy. For some of the interior flights the weight limit is 33 pounds TOTAL. Cameras are heavy. Our Canon PowerShot SX70 HS is a light camera (574 grams) with a 21-1365 mm (35 mm equivalent) lens. That is quite a bit of reach. Out at Bay Area park we started looking around for critters, but they were scarce. We found an egret on the far bank and commenced to take photos with all sorts of settings. Back at the house, a quick look at Lightroom was enough to say that this isn't acceptable. If you look at the 100% you can see significant purple fringing. It was at this point that we decided a new camera was in the offing. Stay Tuned!
