Today we visited two Frank Lloyd Wright structures in Mason City, Iowa. The first was the Stockman House and the second was Park Inn Hotel. We got tours of both and it was very interesting. These were both Prairie School structures from about 1908.
Our next stop was the Des Moines Art Center. I am not big on art museums but I do cruise the galleries to see what is there. There was a lot of modern art which strikes me as mostly things rescued from the trash bin. There was one piece that I liked, a John Singer Sargent portrait of the Pailleron children. They were children of one of his patrons. As I was waiting to get a clear shot of the painting, I realized that the scene was interesting. It answered the question: Who do you see at an art gallery? So I took the photo and this is it. You find visitors, artists and security guards. In the case today there were by far more security guards than anybody else.
