As I mentioned yesterday, Ginny has a checklist for our road trips. Usually I pack up the computer stuff. I was modifying my packing strategy to include two battery chargers. In the process of finishing up, I left our solid state drive with all the photos on my desk. So here we are on the road with no hard drive and no photo database. It was time for a trip to Best Buy. I went in and found a 5TB solid state drive for $105. ($105!) So I snatched it up and I was in business. On trips I back up the external drive to the C: drive om my computer. Of course we have all the images on our camera cards.

The current photo SSD I have is 2 TB. I bought it from B&H in August of 2017 for $797.99, a lot of money. It has been worth the price for us. It is small and has no moving parts. To put this in more perspective, the first box of floppies I bought cost $77 for ten of the Verbatim 360k DSDD disks.

So I decided to calculate how much it would cost to put 5 TB of data onto 360k floppy disks. It would take 13,888,888 floppies which would cost $107 million. It would also take a heck of a long time.
