A busy day in Ottawa (and Gastineau). We drove over to Rideau Hall, the residence of the Governor General of Canada. It was a beautiful morning. We walked around for about an hour then went on a tour of the inside of the house. Our guide was very good. It was hard to soak up all the heraldry and honors stuff, but it was interesting to see.
Our next stop was the Canadian Museum of History across the border in Gastineau, Quebec. There was a very large display about the First People. The Canadians are hung up on that, it seems. The major part of the museum was a timeline of Canadian history. It was excellent. Again, like trying to take a sip from a fire hose. We spent over four hours in the place. It is a museum that I could come back to.
Finally, we attended mass at Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica in Ottawa. The evening mass was bilingual. The cathedral is magnificent. It was finished in the late 1800s. After mass we had a long chat with the rector, Father David Bergeron. It turns out that he served in a church in Houston for ten years at the beginning of his priesthood.
Today's photo is the altar of Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica. It looks very Gothic.
