It was a beautiful day, so Bloke and I went flying in my Cessna 170. Part of the deal was to do some air work before heading to Baytown for some cheap gas. 100LL gas is $3.85 at Baytown while it is $5.10 at our local field, La Porte. It has always been that way. I paid $105.14 for 27.31 gallons. At LaPorte is would have cost $139.28 which is a difference of $34.14. The local FBO once told me it was silly to fly all the way to Baytown for gas. It is only 10 miles. I told her there are three reasons to buy gas at Baytown. First, it is only 10 miles. Second, I get to go flying. Third, I save a bootfull of money.

I have mentioned before that I use an app called ForeFlight for navigation. It is completely legal to use that rather than paper charts. I have to admit, however, for putzing around the local area I keep an old chart in the seat back pocket just in case the electronics fail, and they will at some time. I am a VFR pilot. I quit flying IFR a long time ago. As you might expect, ForeFlight has lots of bells and whistles. My favorite is the track log which records your position, altitude and airspeed. Very cool. The photo for today is the output of the track log. The top is my ground track. The bottom is my speed and altitude. No, I was not inebriated. We were practicing stalls and engine out maneuvers. There are a lot of airspeed and altitude changes when you do that. It was a hoot.
