A big day in the family computing efforts. After much hand wringing I decided to get the Lenovo YOGA 6. It met the specs for RAM (16G) disk (512 SSD) and ports (4). I plunked down my Best Buy credit card to cover the $2^10 cost (1024, for the non binary inclined) and headed home.
As you know, setting up a new computer is straight-forward but time consuming because of all the software needed. This machine required Lightroom, Photoshop, Bridge and Camera Raw. That is a lot of megabytes to download. Our existing internet speed was 3.4 Mbps (.425 MBps), darn slow. I started downloading Adobe Creative Cloud and it was going to take a long time.
We had been talking about increasing our speed, so I begged permission from Ginny and set about finding a new plan. I learned one important thing: talk to a rep because the plans you see online are not all-inclusive. I ended up with 50 Mbps (14X increase) with a twelve month introductory rate that is $10 below our present rate. After a year it increases to $5 above our present rate. That is a good deal. One other advantage of talking to the rep is that he stays with you until everything is working properly.
So today's photo is of the new computer and internet speed demonstrating the 50 Mbps we expected. The peasants rejoiced and peace returned to the realm.
