We had a lazy morning and walked around the town (which doesn't take long). I spent some time at the NPS Visitor Center talking with one of the rangers. There was nobody else around, so we could have a nice conversation.
In the afternoon we did a float trip on the Koyukuk River. It was very low key. There was one stop on a sand bar where the guide pointed out some fresh wolf tracks. That was cool. The last stop was at the old town of Bettles. It was established as a trading post during the 1899 gold rush in the area. It was abandoned because everyone moved upriver to new Bettles which had an airfield. I would say that the mosquitoes there were about the most dense I have ever seen. Bug nets were a must.
Ginny and I had a raft to ourselves. That was a good deal. Today's photo is of the world's best paddler.
